Yellowstone Fans, Here’s the Truth About Jamie Dutton’s Son’s Ending and What Happens Next
As the dust settles on the Dutton Family Ranch following Yellowstone‘s series finale on December 15, 2024, fans wonder what happened to Jamie Dutton’s (Wes Bentley) son, James. Fans may recall that Jamie had a son with Christina in Season 2, a development addressed when Beth Dutton found a baby seat in Jamie’s car in Season 5.
Jamie’s Relationship with Christina and Their Son
Fans must return to Yellowstone‘s second season to understand Jamie Jr.’s fate. In Season 2, Jamie’s girlfriend Christina (Katherine Cunningham) informed Jamie that she was pregnant with his child. At the time, Jamie was preoccupied with his political campaign. Once Christina witnesses John’s influence on Jamie, she gets upset about Jamie’s unwillingness to leave the ranch behind and start a new family with her and the baby. As such, Christina leaves Jamie in Season 2 despite being pregnant.
What’s lost in all this is that none of Jamie’s family members are aware of his baby’s existence. This changes dramatically in Season 5, Episode 1, “One Hundred Years is Nothing,” when Beth spots a baby seat in Jamie’s car. Knowing how much John Dutton values leaving the ranch to his grandchildren after he dies, Beth feels threatened by Jamie Jr., believing that, if John finds out about the baby, he will leave the ranch to him and benefit her bitter rival.
What Happened to Jamie’s Son in the End?
After spotting the baby seat in Jamie’s car, Beth tells her brother that she will not hesitate to kill Jamie’s son. With a direct death threat to her infant child, it’s entirely feasible that Christina took the baby and fled town immediately. It’s possible Jamie coordinated Christina and Jamie Jr.’s secret hideout.
Yet another theory contends that Jamie Jr.’s fate was deliberately left unclear to pave the way for a Yellowstone TV spin-off return ahead. With spin-offs, 1923, 1944, 6666, The Madison, and the untitled Beth/Rip Wheeler spin-off, there’s plenty of storytelling leeway to bring Jamie Jr. back in some capacity.
The most likely would be the latter, as Beth, Rip, and Carter (Finn Little) bought a cattle ranch and settled in Dillon, Montana in the Yellowstone finale. Until more details emerge, the truth is, nobody knows for sure what happened to Jamie Jr. in Yellowstone. It’s all hearsay, conjecture, and postulation.
