It’s Official! ‘Landman’ Blindsides Fans with BIG News

The Season 2 premiere of Landman is now streaming on Paramount+, but one new star from the Taylor Sheridan series is already looking towards the future.

One newcomer to make his debut in Landman Season 2 is Sam Elliot, the Western icon who has previously worked with Sheridan on his first Yellowstone offshoot, 1883. Elliot has been cast as T.L., the father of Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton), who is currently living in an assisted living facility while he lives out his final days. Father and son are due to reunite soon after the death of Tommy’s mother.

Elliot and Billy Bob Thornton recently sat down for a chat to talk about the second season of Landman, and they also addressed the future of the series. Elliot even seemingly confirmed that the show has already been renewed for Season 3:

I’m excited to see what unfolds in Season 3. I mean, we’re talking about Season 2, but that’s backstory for us at this point, and we’re all kind of looking toward April and May when we start shooting Season 3.”

Sounds like Landman fans won’t have to wait long for Season 3 after the Season 2 finale.

The fate of Landman hung in the balance for months after the Season 1 finale, and it wasn’t until earlier this year that Paramount finally confirmed that a second season of the show was in the works. Things moved quickly from there, with production starting shortly after and the series once again hitting a November release date. Landman is Paramount and Taylor Sheridan’s biggest new series, so it’s no surprise it’s being prioritized as such.

How Many Episodes Are in ‘Landman’ Season 2?

Similar to Season 1, there will be 10 episodes in Landman Season 2. After the first episode of Season 2 premiered on Paramount+ this past Sunday, new episodes will continue to air on Paramount+ every week until the Season 2 finale on January 18.

If Season 2 is already scheduled to begin filming in “April or May,” as Sam Elliot said, the Landman crew will only have a few months to take off before they go back to work. Fans aren’t quite as hot on Landman Season 2 as they were Season 1, though, so the future of the show could look different going forward.

Watch the first episode of Landman Season 2 on Paramount+ and stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of the series.
