Yellowstone spin-off The Dutton Ranch has whetted fans’ appetites with a thrilling update on the eagerly awaited Western series’ inaugural season. The forthcoming sequel to Taylor Sheridan’s successful franchise, which stars Kevin Costner as ranching magnate John Dutton, will pick up the narrative following John’s dramatic demise in the fifth season.
Following her father’s heartbreaking death, Beth Dutton (portrayed by Kelly Reilly) and her spouse Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) persist in their struggle for survival on their sprawling 7,000-acre Montana ranch.
Fans have been patiently awaiting updates since the series was initially announced back in August 2024. They are now one step closer to seeing Beth and Rip’s story resume as filming for the first season has reportedly concluded, according to an update from Texas-based firm Legacy Casting.
The series has also been graced with an official teaser poster, which swaps Yellowstone’s iconic ‘Y’ brand for the initials ‘D. R.’ representing Dutton Ranch. The update was disseminated across social media, including on leading actor Hauser’s Instagram page where he captioned it “Here… We… Go.”
Regrettably, the poster hasn’t been accompanied by an official date for the much-anticipated premiere, leaving fans with the same burning question.
One Instagram user responded: “What is your definition of ‘soon’?” Another pleaded in the comments: “Tell us a day.” Others wrote: ‘STOPPPPP…. RIP IS BACK!?!??!’, ‘Can’t happen soon enough!!! I’ve been disappointed in Marshall’s. We need Rip and Beth!’ and ‘Saddle up, check your tack, let’s ride.’
Beth and Rip’s spinoff has been filming in Texas, and, while Paramount has not officially confirmed any details, we expect it to premiere in 2026. We do know that the series will be called Dutton Ranch, and Beth Reilly and Cole Hauser will return to their roles, and they’ll be joined by Finn Little (Carter). Annette Bening and Ed Harris have also been confirmed as costars.
Last week, the official Instagram account for Yellowstone prequel 1923 became the official account for Dutton Ranch, with the note that “We were previously known as 1923 and will now be Dutton Ranch, coming soon to @paramountplus 👀.”
Is it possible that we’ll see a Marshals/Dutton Ranch crossover?
Marshals showrunner Spencer Hudnut gave us a nugget of hope. “We have a couple of characters who will pop up this season who are from [the ‘Yellowstone’] universe,” he told TVLine. “You know, Kayce still has a sister and brother-in-law who are out there, so, that’s always potentially on the horizon. I don’t know how we would make all that work.”
We’ll just be here obsessing until there are more details!
