‘Yellowstone’ Star Announces Exciting Career Move Six Months on From Series Finale

A Yellowstone favourite Lainey Wilson, famous for portraying Abby in season 5 of the Paramount Plus hit, has revealed her new deluxe album, Whirlwind, set to drop on August 22 via BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville, marking its monumental first anniversary. This special edition of her celebrated album will feature five bonus tracks, headlined by her fresh single, Somewhere Over Laredo. Joining the original lineup of 14 songs are tuneful additions such as Bell Bottoms Up, King Ranch, King George, King James, Yesterday, All Day, Every Day, and Peace, Love and Cowboys.

Wilson, a Grammy winner, contributed her musical talents to Yellowstone’s soundtrack prior to becoming a bona fide member of the ensemble in 2022. In the show, Abby is not just any guest star; she’s portrayed as an up-and-coming country singer and love interest of Ryan (played by Ian Stuart Bohen), one of the ranch hands at the iconic Dutton family ranch. Making a stellar entrance in the episode titled One Hundred Years Is Nothing, Abby features in a series of five episodes. The songstress introduced the audience to Somewhere Over Laredo live at the 2025 American Music Awards just recently, later chatting about the tune on CBS Mornings.

Billboard heaped praise on her AMA showstopper, described: “One of her most commanding, dynamic vocal performances to date, crescendo-ing from a soft-focus, tender vocal, before gradually reaching into her upper register for powerful moments that heighten the song’s emotional acuity.”

The song pays homage to the enduring classic Somewhere Over The Rainbow, a tune that first graced screens in the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, performed by the late Judy Garland in her iconic role as Dorothy Gale. Penned by Lainey, alongside Trannie Anderson, Dallas Wilson and Andy Albert, the 2025 track reflects on past romances and salutes small towns nationwide, reports the Irish Star.

Just last month, Lainey celebrated multiple victories at the 60th Annual ACM Awards, securing Entertainer of the Year (marking her second consecutive win), Female Artist of the Year (her third consecutive win), Album of the Year (for Whirlwind) and Artist-Songwriter of the Year.

Currently, she’s embarking on her nearly sold-out US Whirlwind World Tour, with performances scheduled at renowned venues such as New York’s Madison Square Garden, Los Angeles’ Kia Forum, Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, Austin’s Moody Center and Denver’s Ball Arena, among others.

These forthcoming shows follow the tour’s initial leg, which saw a completely sold-out run across the UK and Europe earlier this year. Perhaps most notably, the country star clinched the Best Country Album award at the 2024 Grammy Awards and has been honoured with an induction into the Grand Ole Opry.

Yellowstone is available to stream on Paramount Plus. The deluxe version of Lainey Wilson’s album Whirlwind is now available for pre-order.
