‘Landman’ Star Michelle Randolph Blindsides Fans With Big Career Update

Landman star Michelle Randolph is reportedly in talks to star in a new horror thriller from Late Night with the Devil producers. Tod Williams (Paranormal Activity 2) is set to direct.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news about Randolph being in talks to star in Malibu, which is being described as “a thriller skulking around in the subterranean horror subgenre.” The film is looking to begin shooting later this year. Randolph is known for her role as Elizabeth Strafford in Tyler Sheridan’s 1923 with Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren as well as Ainsley Norris in Landman, which stars Billy Bob Thornton. Earlier this year, Landman was renewed for a second season.

Randolph is also set to star in the upcoming Scream 7 movie in a currently undisclosed role alongside franchise regulars Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox. Details about Scream 7 remain under wraps as well at this time, but it’s been confirmed that the film is undergoing a creative retooling after the stars of the sixth Scream film, Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega exited the project in 2023.

Malibu will be produced by Roy Lee and Steven Schneider’s Spooky Pictures. Last year, the two produced Late Night with the Devil, the hit supernatural horror starring David Dastmalchian. The low-budget independent film followed the events of a late-night talk show episode airing on Halloween, when the host tries to boost ratings by inviting an allegedly possessed young girl onto the show, with disastrous results. The film was critically acclaimed and grossed $16 million worldwide.

Schenider and Williams previously collaborated on Paranormal Activity 2. The second installment in the found footage horror franchise was a box-office success, grossing over $177 million against its $3 million budget. The Paranormal Activity franchise has spawned seven films since its inception in 2007, and the series as a whole has notably grossed over thirty times its overall budget.

Spooky Pictures Has More Thrills & Chills Lined Up For 2025

Roy Lee and Steven Schneider are quickly becoming two big names in the world of horror movies. Building on the success of Late Night with the Devil and last year’s critically acclaimed thriller Strange Darling, Spooky Pictures has even more projects currently in development. An adaptation of Scott Snyder’s horror comic Dungeon is in the works, but details about the project have yet to emerge.

Lee and Schneider are also producers for The Long Walk, Lionsgate’s upcoming Stephen King movie based on his 1979 novel (written under the pseudonym Richard Bachman). The dystopian horror tells the story of a group of young men living in a dystopian United States as they enter an annual contest where they must walk at three miles per hour non-stop or be executed, with only one survivor left standing. The Long Walk will hit theaters on Sept. 12.

Spooky Pictures’ Malibu is expected to begin shooting later this year.
