Taylor Sheridan’s Surprise ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff ‘Rio Palo’ Confirms First Cast Member
Taylor Sheridan from the rafters with ANOTHER Yellowstone spinoff. Is that 4 or 5 in the works right now? Honestly, I’m struggling to keep them all straight. But… we did a little digging, and we’re able to confirm a few things about the show… it’s not all that much, but based on the fact that there is virtually zero information about the show, other than where it is shooting, it’s certainly a start.
Earlier this week, the small town of Ferris, Texas, revealed that Taylor Sheridan’s latest Yellowstone spinoff series, one titled Rio Palo, would be filming in their town. And by revealing that… they revealed that Taylor Sheridan has another Yellowstone spinoff in the works. It was a rather shocking announcement considering that he’s already tapped for an alarming number of projects, both inside the Yellowstone universe, and otherwise.
Ferris, Texas – a town about 20 miles south of Dallas – put out a statement expressing their excitement to be involved: “The city of Ferris is proud to announce that Paramount Pictures has selected Ferris as a primary filming location for its upcoming spinoff of the acclaimed television series ‘Yellowstone,’ titled ‘RIO PALO.’ The production will highlight the charm, versatility, and visual appeal of the community, positioning Ferris on a national stage and capturing its unique character for audiences around the world.”
City Manager, Brooks Williams, added: “This is a proud and fun moment for Ferris. Ferris helped build Texas and the nation. Ferris bricks are in streets, schools and courthouses across this country. But that is just part of who we are. Ferris has never settled for being one thing. This city has evolved, adapted and grown. Paramount’s decision to film here is one more chapter in that story. It affirms that a place with roots can still move forward, that a city shaped by history can also shape what comes next. We are proud of what this means for Ferris and proud to show others what we already know. We are just getting started.”
Sounds great for the town of Ferris, but what is this show? Is is the rumored 6666’s spinoff that Taylor has been talking about for years? Is it another prequel series that takes place in the past? Well, nothing is for sure, but here’s what we know…
‘Rio Palo’ Details
Based on some casting calls, it seems pretty clear that this will be some kind of modern day spinoff series. According to local news, the show is looking for extras and will begin filming soon in Ferris, as well as Cleburne, Rio Vista, and Weatherford, all spots southwest of the DFW area. They’re looking for the role of “male ambulance driver,” “kids to prisoner #1”, “brother to prisoner #2”, “Dalton’s friends,” who are high school kids, and various “rodeo” roles that include beer stand workers, contestants, and fans. They also are looking for bar patrons and especially ones with vehicles. Safe to say it’s a modern day show, right? Or at least relatively modern…
Who Is Starring?
In Weatherford, the show is also seeking a double for actor, Juan Pablo Raba, and they were very specific that they want someone who look just like him. The Columbian actor is best known for his roles as Gustavo Gaviria in Narcos, and has also starred in The Marksman, Freelance, Long Gone Heroes, and the Navy SEAL series, Six.
It’s unclear what role he’ll have in Rio Palo, and if it will be major role or not, but nevertheless, it’s our first look at the cast. Taylor Sheridan notoriously keeps his scripts and shows under wraps, but with filming set to begin this week, it appears that this one will be premiering sooner rather than later. Of course, Taylor also has the Rip and Beth spinoff, The Dutton Ranch, in the works, a Kayce Dutton spinoff titled Y: Marshals, a 1944 prequel series and The Madison, another modern day spinoff set in Montana.
The Dutton Ranch was initially scheduled to premiere in late 2025 but has been moved to 2026, Kacey Dutton’s The Marshals will premiere in 2026 as well (between January and April), and 1944 will air later in 2026. The Madison, which from the very beginning has had the great Michelle Pfeiffer attached, was originally supposed to air later in 2025, or early in 2026, and reportedly began production last year. However, it’s premiere date is unknown. Also, that’s just Yellowstone… Sheridan also has Tulsa King Season 3 set to premiere in September, Mayor Of Kingstown Season 4 in October, and Landman Season 2, which just wrapped filming, in December of this year.
The man certainly stays busy… stay tuned.
