Billy Bob Thornton Reveals Landman’s Shocking Future

Taylor Sheridan’s Landman is continuing to do what it does best — strike oil both on-screen and off. The Paramount+ juggernaut, led by Billy Bob Thornton, continues to dominate the streamer’s lineup, with Season 2 set to premiere November 16.

The first season followed Tommy Norris as he battled oil rig explosions, rival corporations, and cartel threats — while also juggling a remarriage to his ex-wife Angela (played by Ali Larter) and his strained relationship with his daughter Ainsley (Michelle Randolph).

Now, as Season 2 approaches, the stakes — and the cast — are getting even bigger. Sam Elliott joins the series as Tommy’s father, TL, while Demi Moore’s Cami Miller steps up as the new head of M-Tex following Monty Miller’s (Jon Hamm) death in the Season 1 finale. Andy Garcia also returns as cartel boss Gallino after his shocking end-of-season cameo.

What Can We Expect From ‘Landman’ Season 2?

Speaking to USA Today, Thornton says fans should expect more high-stakes drama and plenty of fiery one-liners from his oil-fixing antihero, who’s now been promoted to president of M-Tex. “Taylor said, ‘I’m writing this show around you about the oil business, and I’m going to write in your voice,’” Thornton recalls. “It sounds like a joke, but it’s tailor-made for me.”

For the Oscar winner, Landman marks a new kind of fame — even after decades in Hollywood. “My shows were popular, but this is entering a different world,” he admits. “This is kind of a phenomenon. I didn’t know there’d be another level for me.”

And it looks like he’ll be living in Tommy Norris’s dusty boots for a while longer. Thornton revealed he’s signed on for “four or five years” of Landman and plans to stick around “for as long as they’ll have me.”

If there’s one thing Thornton has changed for Season 2, though, it’s his wardrobe. “The first season, my jeans were so baggy. And I’ve got birdlegs, so it looked like clown pants,” he jokes. “I asked the costume department, ‘Can we bring them in a little this season?’ So this time they tailored them just a little bit more.”

From the oil fields to The Patch, Landman keeps finding new ways to fuel its momentum — and with Thornton locked in for several more years, this boom doesn’t look like it’s ending anytime soon.

Season 2 of Landman premieres November 16 on Paramount+.
