Sam Elliott Accidentally Revealed That ‘Landman’ Season 3 Is Already In The Works

Thanks to a potential Sam Elliott slip up, we know that there should be a third season of Landman.

The second season of Taylor Sheridan’s hit show premiered on Paramount+ this past weekend, and fans were ecstatic to see that the show hit the ground running. I won’t spoil anything for viewers that have yet to watch the Season 2 premiere, but I will say that there’s a lot of drama both at home and in the oil fields – which at this point can and should be expected from the hit series.

Season 2’s first episode also acted as the introduction to a highly anticipated new character: Sam Elliott’s T.L. Norris, the father of Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy Norris. He joins the likes of Demi Moore, Ali Larter, Michelle Randolph, Kayla Wallace and Andy Garcia. It’s as good of a cast as they come in the world of television.

And I don’t want to skip past the fact that Season 2 of Landman is finally here… but I’m going to. Because with all the news of Taylor Sheridan leaving Paramount for NBCUniversal, there’s been some concern about the show’s future. For those fretting about what could happen to Landman, and if the series could come to an abrupt ending because of Sheridan’s exit, you’ll be happy to hear that there’s already plans for the show to continue.

Sam Elliott accidentally let the cat out of the bag. The 81-year-old, mustachioed actor was speaking with ExtraTV about the second season of Landman when he revealed some rather exciting news about an unannounced, unconfirmed third season. Despite Paramount not officially ordering a Season 3 just yet, Elliott and the rest of the Landman crew are planning on filming the next batch of episodes in early 2026, according to this quote:

“I’m excited to see what unfolds in (Landman) Season 3. I mean, we’re talking about Season 2, but that’s backstory for us at this point. We’re all kind of looking toward to April and May when we start shooting Season 3.”

Boom… there it is.

That also would mean that Sam Elliott’s character is likely safe from any sort of horrible demise in Season 2 (I guess they could always use him in flashbacks in Season 3, but I don’t see that happening). I only say that because I’m not sure many expected Jon Hamm’s Monty Miller to bite the dust in Season 1… and here we are.

The other good news? If that shooting schedule that Elliott laid out is true, then that would mean that Landman Season 3 would be following along on the exact same timeline as Season 2. Taylor Sheridan has always been the type that likes to keep his shows on tight, every-year release schedules. Landman’s second season started shooting in April of 2025, and was ready to go for a Paramount+ premiere in November.

Fans should probably expect the same for Season 3. And in addition to that, Christian Wallace – the co-creator and executive producer of Landman – clarified that the show could go on after Taylor Sheridan exits Paramount. The Yellowstone creator’s contract with Paramount expires at the end of 2028, so some were worried that’s as long as Landman (or any other Sheridan show on Paramount+) could go. Fortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Landman could continue to roll on well after Sheridan leaves… and all we have to do is wait for Sam Elliott to spill the beans about it each and every year.
