‘Landman’s Future Gets Huge Update Beyond Season 3

Taylor Sheridan’s Landman isn’t just surviving — it’s quietly locking in a long-term future. While Paramount+ has already renewed the West Texas oil drama for Season 3, a new update suggests the series could be in this for the long haul, with Billy Bob Thornton potentially steering the ship for years to come.

Inspired by the Boomtown podcast, Landman dives deep into the brutal, high-stakes world of the oil industry, with Thornton’s Tommy Norris serving as the show’s moral gray zone — part fixer, part survivor, part emotional wreck. Since premiering in 2024, the series has steadily built momentum, blending cartel violence, corporate warfare, and deeply messy family drama in a way only Sheridan really can.

Season 1 ended on a wild note, killing off Jon Hamm’s Monty Miller and thrusting Tommy into the role of president of M-Tex — right before he was kidnapped and brutally beaten by a cartel leader.

Season 2 somehow raised the stakes even more, expanding the ensemble and giving Demi Moore’s Cami real narrative weight. And audiences showed up in force: the Season 2 premiere pulled in over 9.2 million views in its first two days, making it Paramount+’s most-watched original series premiere ever.

But the biggest reveal might be what’s coming after Season 3. Thornton confirmed in November 2025 that he signed on for four to five seasons of Landman, telling The Hollywood Reporter he’ll stay “as long as I’m able” or “until the story runs out.” Translation: this isn’t a quick prestige pit stop. Sheridan and Paramount+ clearly see Landman as a multi-season anchor — and Tommy Norris as its backbone.

Is ‘Landman’ Worth Watching?

While Season 2 has a 43% score from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s clear that viewers are still watching in droves. Collider’s review of the second season summed up:

Season 2 of Landman is ultimately showing signs of more promise after its first three episodes, with Moore already delivering a strong performance for a complex character. While Garcia’s still at the “mysterious character with hidden motives” point in the series, his presence is also clearly felt. Between his inclusion and a big new narrative for Cooper, there are considerable opportunities for raised stakes, character growth, and fresh drama. It’s impossible to say what Landman‘s true trajectory will be this season, but it’s already a bit closer to a well that hits than it was the first time around. Now, it just has to stick the landing.
