‘Landman’ Season 2 Finale: Jacob Lofland Teases Twists, Cliffhanger, and ‘Awesome’ Season 3 Setup

“Landman” season 2 is heading into its finale after a dramatic penultimate episode ended on a violent cliffhanger involving Cooper Norris, the aspiring oil man played by Jacob Lofland. The episode showed Cooper arriving behind the bar where his 22-year-old fiancée Ariana (Paulina Chavez) works and finding her being sexually assaulted by a former bar patron. Ariana had been beaten nearly unconscious as the man attempted to remove her clothes. Cooper attacked the man and severely beat him until Ariana’s boss arrived. The episode ended with a security camera capturing the incident and police being called.

Lofland recently previewed what’s ahead in the final episodes, saying that season 2 took turns he did not expect. “This season, there were some twists and turns that you did not see coming,” Lofland said. “I tried to predict every bit of it before we read it, and some of it blew me off of feet. I was like, ‘I did not see that coming.’”

Jacob Lofland Teases ‘Landman’ Season 2 Finale Ending and Season 3 Setup

“Landman” has already been renewed for season 3, and Lofland suggested viewers will finish season 2 with more questions than answers — in a way that builds anticipation for what happens next. “I don’t even know if you can call it a cliffhanger,” Lofland told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s just going to leave everybody wanting more.”

He also shared his excitement about returning for the next chapter. “I’ll tell you personally, I cannot wait to go back and start season three. I cannot wait,” he said. “I’m looking so forward to it because of where we left off. Like, the first episode’s going to be awesome.”

Lofland added that he has not seen scripts yet for the upcoming season, but he believes the ending of season 2 sets the show up strongly. “I haven’t read anything, I don’t have any idea what’s coming,” he said. “But I know it’s going to be awesome just from the set up that we have coming out of season two.”

Cooper’s Future on ‘Landman’ and What Comes Next

In the same interview, Lofland spoke about the long-term potential for his character, saying he relates to Cooper’s personality and decision-making. “Me and Cooper are pretty similar in our demeanors and the way we look at life,” he said. “I’ve made a lot of the same mistakes in other aspects that he’s made in this show. So I think I’ve got a pretty good understanding of him.”

However, Lofland noted the character direction is ultimately in the hands of the creative team. “Taylor might tell me different next season!” he said, referencing Taylor Sheridan. “But it’s all up to him. I’ll give him my interpretation until him or Stephen Kay [director] tell me to change it.”

‘Landman’ Season 2 Builds Toward Finale After Tommy’s Firing

Ahead of the finale, “Landman” continued raising the stakes with Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy facing major fallout at M-Tex Oil. During the Sunday, January 11 episode of the Paramount+ series, Tommy traveled with coworkers including Cami (Demi Moore), Gallino (Andy Garcia), and Rebecca (Kayla Wallace) to see Charlie (Guy Burnet) and his team off as they headed to the well drill. As the company celebrated the potential profit, Cami privately delivered a major decision to Tommy. “President of my company can’t be adverse to the very thing that built it,” Cami told Tommy, referencing risk-taking. “I’m saying you’re fired.”

The “Landman” season 2 finale airs Sunday, January 18, on Paramount+.
