‘Landman’ Season 2’s Bombshell Finale Ratings Revealed: “You’ll be shocked”

Landman is drilled in for the long haul now.

Ratings figures for Season 2’s finale, which premiered last Sunday (January 18) on Paramount+, have now arrived, and these new numbers show that the Taylor Sheridan oil drama is more popular than ever.

As detailed by The Wrap, the season’s closer notched 14.8 million worldwide views in just two days, which is a 70% increase from the Season 1 finale.

In December, Paramount+ previously touted the show’s viewership successes while announcing an early renewal of the series for Season 3. In a previous press release, the company revealed that the Season 2 premiere, which dropped on November 16, earned 9.2 million streaming views in its first two days on the service, which was a 262% jump from the Season 1 premiere figures. The new data also indicates that the first nine episodes of the second season averaged 14.9 million global views in the first week on the service, or a 58% jump from Season 1 numbers.

Nielsen numbers also back up Paramount+’s claim to fame for Landman right now. For the week of December 15 to 21, the series ranks second on the Top 10 most-streamed shows list (second only to Netflix’s Stranger Things) with more than 1.6 billion minutes streamed of the 16 episodes available on the streamer at the time. Nielsen also reported a whopping 6.2 billion minutes streamed of Landman in all of December.

An uptick in social media conversations surrounding “Landman” was also seen this season, with Season 2 racking up 11.5 million engagements across the rollout, up 46% from the 7.9 million engagements tallied up for Season 1, per figures from Domo. Additionally, “Landman” totaled 232,000 social mentions throughout the Season 2 rollout, tripling the social mentions from Season 1, per Talkwalker.

For the Season 2 finale specifically, “Landman” saw its strongest week for social mentions as the show earned 64,000 total mentions, six times the amount of social mentions during the Season 1 finale week. “Landman” also saw its strongest day when it came to new follower growth, with social accounts for the series receiving 85,600 total new followers across platforms on the day following the Season 2 finale.

What To Expect From Landman Season 3

Therefore, while the coyote in the finale scene of Landman Season 2, on some levels, represents a change in the tide for Norris, it’s also a representation of the constant uncertainty he will face in Landman Season 3. Even though Tommy is in control after his Season 2 triumph, there will be new challenges when Landman returns.

However, Tommy will not face his challenges alone now that he has appointed Cooper as president of CTT Oil Exploration. Tommy will have his family, including his father, T.L. (Sam Elliott), at his side during his next chapter, which will follow the Norris family company rather than the one the Millers formed, ending an era for Landman.

Regardless of what’s in store, the show will undoubtedly carry a different tone and feel when anchored by Tommy and his new endeavor, his triumph reflected in the Season 2 closing scene. For observant fans of the series, the coyote served as a reminder of the risks Tommy faces, while acknowledging that Norris has started anew.
