Filming For ‘Landman’ Season 3 Will Reportedly Be Delayed… Will It Still Premiere In Late 2026?
Fans of Landman aren’t going to like this update.
The Taylor Sheridan hit show had quite the chaotic ending to its second season. Some fans say the last couple of episodes of the oil drama basically saved the entirety of Season 2 from being labeled as “unwatchable.” Despite the mixed feelings towards the series’ sophomore run, viewers are now anxiously waiting to find out what happens with all of their favorite characters, like Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy Norris or Demi Moore’s Cami Miller.
There were quite a few “so what comes next?” cliffhangers at the end of Season 2, so that makes sense.
The good news is that Season 3 of Landman has been ordered and is already in the works. The bad news? It appears that the series will start shooting a bit later in the year than anticipated. Traditionally, Landman has begun filming in April so that it can premiere in November. With Season 3, showrunner Christian Wallace says they’ll be getting started a month later than normal, and he told The Hollywood Reporter that he’s a bit concerned with the brutal heat brought on by Texas summers:
“We are a little bit later than we were the last two seasons, but that only matters for us because of the heat in Texas. When we get back into production this year, it’s going to be pretty full on, and just getting hotter.”
Why could the heat be an issue?
Well, other than just making actors and actresses on the show a bit uncomfortable, it could contribute to shooting delays – especially for on-location filming. Following Landman‘s typical turn around time, getting started on the show in May would mean a December 2026 premiere. Any sort of delay could push the release of Landman Season 3 into early 2027.
And if you don’t think the Texas heat will actually be an issue, Wallace went on to detail why it could cause some problems for the show that he and Taylor Sheridan co-created:
“That’s the big struggle from a production standpoint for us being on set every day. We have so many exteriors, and that’s a good thing because this show thrives in the dust and the heat and the reality of that gritty, hot world. But it is hard on the crew and cast, and on everybody. Twelve-hour days in 100-plus degree weather is no joke. But that is our cross to bear, not the audiences’.”
If anything should give Landman fans some hope, it’s that last line. It sounds like Wallace and the rest of the cast and crew will do their best to go full-steam ahead with filming once they get going… no matter how hot it ends up getting in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Taylor Sheridan has always been the type that likes to keep his shows on tight, every-year release schedule, so fans should probably expect the same for Season 3 unless they hear otherwise. Even with his other shows like Tulsa King and Mayor Of Kingstown, the general rhythm has been film in the spring, premiere in the fall (or winter).
That’s not a bad silver lining, right? Having one of your favorite shows go on a break can leave you dealing with a feeling of emptiness. But having something to look forward to – like Landman hopefully returning before the calendar turns to 2027 – just might be enough to get you through.
