Billy Bob Thornton Shares Bombshell Update on Tommy and Cami After the Dramatic Season 2 Finale

Warning: This article contains spoilers for the Landman season 2 finale, “Tragedy and Flies.”

Billy Bob Thornton isn’t sure his character Tommy and Demi Moore’s Cami are going to be friends after that dramatic Landman season 2 finale. The Oscar-winning actor tells Entertainment Weekly that while he doesn’t know how things will play out between the pair in the drama’s forthcoming third season, he’s inclined to believe that they’re not exactly going to be on good terms.

“That’s going to be an interesting dynamic,” Thornton says. “First of all, she’s the widow of my best friend, who owned a company that I worked for and essentially ran the company, other than the financial end of it. And Cami was someone I knew for years and years and years, and all of a sudden she fires me. I mean, that’s an odd feeling to start with, you know?”

Cami fired Tommy from his role as President of M*Tex Oil, a title previously held by his late best friend Monty (Jon Hamm), in the penultimate episode of Landman season 2. The finale focused heavily on the oil executive’s hunt for a new job, with Tommy ultimately deciding to create a new oil company called CTT Oil Exploration and Cattle with his son, Cooper (Jacob Lofland), and father, T.L. (Sam Elliott).

Oh, and along the way Tommy may have taken the entirety of Cami’s most trusted and reliable team with him. That includes Rebecca (Kayla Wallace), who becomes the company’s new chief operating officer and chief counsel, as well as the newly appointed head of exploration, Dale (James Jordan), and crew manager, Boss (Mustafa Speaks).

Nate (Colm Feore), who previously turned down Cami’s offer to become interim president of M*Tex, has also joined CTT, serving as the company’s new treasurer. And Tommy was even able to get Gallino (Andy Garcia) on his side, with the cartel leader financing CTT’s exploration in exchange for 50 percent of the company’s overall profits.

With Cami firing Tommy, and then Tommy proceeding to take all of her advisors along with him, Thornton thinks Cami will be a major antagonist — or, at the very least, a fierce competitor — in the next season.

“Will she become the nemesis? I don’t know,” he says. “It seems like the natural progression … I’m thinking that, just the way they left it, that there’s got to be some kind of major competition there.” The star is also quick to remind everyone that it was Cami who drew first blood. “An eye for an eye,” he teases.

When it comes to season 3, Thornton envisions a follow-up that blends the best parts of the show’s earlier installments. “It seems like a natural progression to combine what season 1 was and what season 2 was,” he says. “Sort of bring the danger back from season 1, and yet still dive deeper into the people. That’s just my guess.”
