Emotional ‘Landman’ Scene Left Ali Larter in Tears—and Will Leave Your Skin Crawling

Actress Ali Larter plays the sensuous, sassy Angela on Taylor Sheridan’s massive TV hit, Landman. It is not an overstatement to say that Larter portrays the character to the feisty hilt. Viewers love it. But if you think there is a glam factor experienced by those involved while filming the drama, guess again.

As Larter made clear when she was a guest recently on Late Night With Seth Meyers, hardships and challenges abound on set – like nasty, biting insects that crawl on your body, for example.

As Larter explained to Meyers, filming was progressing for a Landman episode. Everyone was trying to make the most of the spectacular sunset before it vanished, so there was considerable time pressure. She said, “We had a scene this season where it was like, it’s the end of the day, we have a huge crew, it’s high pressure, and we are rushing to get this shot.”

But there were some unexpected distractions to contend with that day. Larter shared, “I’m standing there in this wide open field, barefoot, jean shorts, and they’re rushing, rushing, rushing, and I hear, ‘Action!’ And I’m standing there, and I’m looking at the horses, and all of a sudden I feel something crawling between my toes. And I look down and there are fire ants biting my toes.”

The Director Praised How “Emotional” She Was

An Unfortunate Accident Made Ali Larter Think She Was Going To Get Fired From Landman

Pro that she is, Larter managed not to have a meltdown. She bravely carried on with the scene anyway. “I’m like, ‘I just have to live through this.’ So I lean to [actor Billy Bob Thornton] and I go into the scene, and I do the scene with him, and all of a sudden I hear, ‘Cut!'”

Director Stephen Kay was thrilled with Larter’s performance. She said he declared, “‘Ali, you were so emotional!’ You were so connected!’ And I was like, ‘I’m crying because I was getting bit by fire ants!'” And I was scared they were going to yell at me because they weren’t going to get the shot!”

Larter really suffered that day for the sake of her craft. “I had welts on my feet. I mean, this show takes a toll on this bod.”
