The first plot details about the Marshals Season 1 finale raise concerns about Thomas Rainwater’s (Gil Birmingham) fate in the Yellowstone spinoff (that has already been renewed). Will the Broken Rock chairman die at the end of the season? There’s an assassination attempt on the horizon, according to CBS.
Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) joined the U.S. Marshals in Montana a year after losing his wife, Monica (Kelsey Asbille), to cancer in Marshals. The drama shows Kayce and his son, Tate (Brecken Merrill), contending with their grief during their family’s new start with Kayce’s new job.
Thomas Rainwater from Yellowstone, along with his trusty driver Mo (Mo Brings Plenty), reprise their Yellowstone roles in the spinoff as well, and they’ve been a supportive presence for Kayce and Tate while simultaneously advocating for Indigenous rights in Montana.
Now, there will be a serious threat to Rainwater’s life in the Marshals Season 1 finale, airing on Sunday, May 24, at 8/7c on CBS.
The episode is titled “Wolves at the Door.” Here’s the logline: “After an assassination attempt against Broken Rock chairman Rainwater, Kayce protects him while the Marshals race to discover who’s targeting him. When a militia attacks, Kayce realizes the conspiracy is larger than anyone imagined.”
The first photo from the episode, above, shows Rainwater flanked by Mo, Belle (Arielle Kebbel), and Andrea (Ash Santos), with team leader Cal (Logan Marshall-Green) in the background. They’re all clearly on the defense and tensions are high. Kayce and Miles (Tatanka Means) are missing from the photo.
This isn’t the first time Rainwater’s life was at risk in Marshals. He was badly injured in the explosion at the protest staged by the people of Broken Rock in the series premiere. Thankfully, he recovered, but was that brush with death a hint that Rainwater’s days were numbered? There’s also been rising tensions between the reservation’s population and white Montana residents who resented their protest against a new mine being built.
None of the Marshals’ main characters have died in Season 1 of the series. Monica’s death happened before the events of the series premiere and served as the jumping-off point for the story.
Let’s hope Marshals doesn’t kill off another Yellowstone character just to give Kayce’s life some drama.
