Harrison Ford to Appear in ‘1944’: What We Know About a Possible ‘Yellowstone’ Return
From spooky to sweet, here is how these cameos could happen in ‘1944’
1923 fans, we have some breaking news for you! In a recent interview Harrison Ford (who plays Jacob Dutton), Helen Mirren (who plays Cara Dutton) and Julia Schlaepfer (who plays Alexandra Dutton) recently shared their thoughts on the show’s ending and how it could impact their decision to come back for the new Taylor Sheridan prequel, 1944. We look into what they said and explore ways that they could come back into the Yellowstone universe.
Harrison Ford shares if he would return to the role of Jacob Dutton
In the series finale of 1923, fans were pleasantly surprised to learn that Jacob Dutton (Ford) made it out alive and planned on “sitting on the porch” to “ponder the meaning of life.”
And according to Ford, he was surprised as well!
“I’m still alive,” the Star Wars actor said earlier this month, per The Hollywood Reporter. “[It] was fantastic—I thought it was very tight storytelling and I was absolutely delighted with it. It’s probably the densest script and work that I’ve had a chance to work on in a long, long time.”

Ford also said that if Sheridan—the show’s creator and lead writer—asked nicely, he could potentially return to the universe, but Ford said he has “no idea what his [Sheridan’s] plans are.”
If Ford does return as Jacob Dutton in 1944, though, his character will be around 100 years old. Because of this, if he does return, it will likely be in some sort of flashback or dream sequence.
Helen Mirren spills on what she thought of the ending
Much like her onscreen husband, Mirren did make it out alive, which came as a shock to her.
“[I was] convinced that I was going to die,” the actress joked at a recent FYC event. “So I was quite surprised I was still alive at the end of the show.”
Similar to Jacob, Cara’s (Mirren) journey ended with her sitting on the porch watching after Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) and Alexandra’s son John Dutton II, who is rumored to be the focal point of 1944.

“I love the fact that the future of Yellowstone is left in this tiny baby, in the arms of two older people, grandparents’ ages. I thought that was a very interesting concept,” Miren said. “And Taylor [Sheridan] now, I think, is going to do 1944 as I understand, so that will be interesting too, the next generation.”
Unlike Ford, Mirren didn’t say if she would be open to returning to the Yellowstone universe; however, given how close the two actors are, it would be safe to say that if one does it, the other will as well.
Julia Schlaepfer teases a spooky return

After a very long and treacherous journey from England to Montana, Schlaepfer’s character, Alexandra, dies from frostbite just hours after reuniting with her husband, Spencer, and giving birth to their child, John. And while that may seem like the end of her journey, Schlaepfer did say that given the right storyline she would come back.
“I know Brandon [Sklenar] was lobbying for me to be a ghost,” the actress joked at that same FYC event. “I’d be an Alex ghost, for sure.”
Since 1944 is rumored to be about Spencer and Alexandra’s son, it would make total sense for the actress to appear as a ghost and talk to the son she only got a few hours with before her death. It would also be a really touching moment, especially if she stopped by to say hello to her soulmate Spencer as well.
