Is ‘1923’ Coming Back for Season 3? What We Know About the Show’s Future

Paramount+ hasn’t confirmed—but some of the actors have hinted against it.

1923 season 2 is off to a banner start. Since premiering on February 23 on Paramount+, the Yellowstone prequel is pacing up +56% as compared season one, and has earned 77 million views on social media, which is 11 times higher than it performed for Season 1.

In other words, Season 2 is being so well received, it’s hard not to wonder what’s next. After all, as it currently stands, the streaming service has yet to remark on whether there will be a 1923 Season 3. With that in mind, keep reading to uncover what we know so far.

What Is 1923?

As a refresher, 1923 is the second Yellowstone prequel, coming after 1883. Jacob (Harrison Ford) and Cara Dutton (Helen Mirren) inherited the ranch when his brother and sister-in-law, James (Tim McGraw) and Margaret Dutton (Faith Hill), passed away. In the process, Jacob and Cara also took in their nephews, Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) and John Dutton (James Badge Dale). John Dutton (the older of the two) died in 1923 Season 1, Episode 3, leaving his son, Jack, with Jacob and Cara. Meanwhile, Spencer is on a mad dash to get back home to Montana to save his family and the ranch from succumbing to attack, and to reunite with his wife, Alex (Julia Schlaepfer).

In a word, it’s chaotic. But many fans are also complaining that 1923 Season 2 is also quite slow. After all, everyone’s dying to see Alex and Spencer reunited, and to witness Spencer go absolutely wild in pursuit of protecting his family.

Will There Be a 1923 Season 3?

Considering we’re already four episodes into the 8-episode season, some fans are worried about how the series will wrap up, especially because, while Paramount+ hasn’t made an official statement, some of the actors have already confirmed that this is the final installment of the prequel.

In May 2023, Brandon told The Hollywood Reporter that the then-upcoming episodes would serve as a conclusion to the prequel. “No, no, it’s bookend. It’s still limited, but I think of it as one piece—there’s just a split in the middle, but it’s all one piece. It will conclude,” he explained.

Now the only question is, how?
