‘Landman’ Season 2 Filming Location Hints at a Big New Storyline for a Controversial Character

It looks like one of the most talked-about characters in Landman is heading off to college — and the production team just dropped a major clue. As Landman Season 2 continues filming across North Texas, a new location might reveal what’s next for Ainsley Norris, the daughter of Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy Norris and a beacon of positivity in Taylor Sheridan’s rough-and-tumble oilfield drama.

According to a casting notice obtained by Legacy Casting, Landman is filming “on-campus scenes” this week at Texas Christian University (TCU) in Fort Worth, and they’re looking for extras aged 18–24 to play college students. Considering Ainsley’s arc in Season 1 focused on her return home and her struggle to reconnect with her father, this campus setting strongly suggests she’ll be starting (or returning to) college in Season 2.

What Does This Mean For Landman Season 2?

While Landman has already filmed in oil towns like Midland and Odessa and expanded production to Oklahoma, the Fort Worth shoot at TCU is a notable shift. In Season 1, Ainsley was at a crossroads, unsure if she wanted to stay entangled in the world her father lives in or follow her own path. The move back to campus could signal a new phase for her — one that offers independence, identity, and potential new conflict.

Of course, this is Landman, so peace never lasts long. There’s always the possibility that Tommy’s drama will follow Ainsley to school, pulling her deeper into the dangerous world she tried to escape. Michelle Randolph, who plays Ainsley, recently confirmed in The Hollywood Reporter that she was well into filming Season 2 and feeling right at home.

“I felt like we just started where we left off. I think I found the character last season and we all are so comfortable together. I’m on my second week of filming, and it’s fun to be back.”

Ainsley’s bright and hopeful attitude stood out amid Landman’s corporate corruption, family feuds, and gritty West Texas backdrop. But her character — and her storyline with Ali Larter’s Angela, her mother — also drew controversy from some corners of the internet. Randolph isn’t letting that noise get to her.

“I’m trying my very, very best to just completely tune it out. It worked, whatever I did, so I’m trying to get in the headspace I was in for the first season. Whatever the audience thinks, that’s not something I should pay attention to. It’s irrelevant to my process with Ainsley.”

Landman Season 2 is expected to premiere in November 2025 on Paramount+. Season 1 is now streaming.
