Landman season 2 is teasing a dark end for Cooper and Ariana’s relationship after the events of the penultimate episode. Cooper and Ariana’s relationship has been an anchor of the series since it began. Of Landman‘s many characters, Cooper and Ariana have had the most emotional relationship, finding comfort in each other after the season premiere’s oil rig tragedy. Landman season 2 has featured more ups and downs for the couple as Cooper pursues his dream of building an oil empire. However, with his fledgling company now folded into M-Tex, his profits are now contingent on the larger company. However, his future with Ariana now hinges on the aftermath of his actions in season 2, episode 9.
Cooper Might Be Going To Jail For Saving Ariana

The end of Landman season 2, episode 9 sees a wealthy customer from earlier in the season who kept uncomfortably hitting on Ariana confront her behind The Patch Cafe. He physically assaults her and attempts to sexually assault her as well. Luckily, Cooper arrives just in time, ripping him off her and punching him in the face.
However, he ends up going even further, punching him over and over again to the point Ariana is warning him that he’s going to kill him. Cooper stops once Barney comes outside, calling the cops as the couple explains what happened. However, the very end of the episode revealed the entire confrontation had been caught on the Patch’s surveillence cameras. Even though Cooper was right to save Ariana, his future with her may now be in jeopardy because he kept punching her assailant. While his initial hits to get him off of her can be seen as justified in the eyes of the law, him nearly beating the man to death could be seen as going too far. This could potentially lead to Cooper getting hit with criminal charges.

The trailer for Ep. 10 indicates Cooper and/or Ariana are in big legal trouble. She’s told to get a lawyer so she calls Rebecca, who will surely have a fun time defending them against attorneys representing a rapist. Tommy’s path forward is less clear. Now that he’s no longer working for M-Tex, what is compelling him to meet with Gallino?
