‘Landman’ Season 2 Teases Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy Norris Will Have Way Bigger Problems Than The Mob
When Landman makes its triumphant return to screens this month, it’s bringing a major change to the life of Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton). During Landman‘s Season 1 finale “The Crumbs of Hope”, M-Tex Oil owner Monty Miller (Jon Hamm) died after suffering a heart attack. Tommy was charged by Monty’s wife Cami (Demi Moore) with making a deal that could save M-Tex Oil, but before he could pull it off, he was kidnapped by cartel members…and then saved by a senior member of the cartel, Galino (Andy Garcia).
Tommy Norris Will Face Personal & Professional Obstacles In ‘Landman’ Season 2

The biggest threat in Landman Season 2 appears to be Galino, who Billy Bob Thornton has teased is far smarter and therefore far more dangerous than the cartel members Tommy dealt with in Season 1. “Tommy isn’t dealing with henchmen anymore. He knew how to deal with them. But now he’s got a smart guy on the opposite side of the law who is his equal,” he told the Los Angeles Times. “We’re in a chess match, and I hope that’s explored.”
There’s also the act of running M-Tex Oil, which is far different from Tommy’s official landman duties. He has to deal with Cami’s whims, and Thornton points out that Cami might not be as knowledgeable of the dangers of the oil business as Tommy is:
“Since she doesn’t really know the oil business that well, I’m there with her to show her how these people operate…You can know something intellectually but what are the street smarts behind it? I know how to deal with these people she’s going to have to deal with. I just tell her, ‘Look, some of these deals you can take but when it gets really weird and difficult, let me know because I know these guys.'”
As if crime lords and cutthroat buisnessmen weren’t enough to deal with, there’s also Tommy’s own family issues to consider. While he still has a tumultuous relationship with his ex-wife Angela (Ali Larter), not to mention his children Ainsley (Michelle Randolph) and Cooper (Jacob Loftland), Landman Season 2 is reuniting Tommy with his father, played by none other than 1883 vet Sam Elliott. The relationship between Tommy and his father is ice-cold, to put it mildly, meaning that viewers will be in for more Taylor Sheridan-style family drama.
‘Landman’ Has One More Season In The Tank
As Landman undergoes a seismic status quo shift, it ironically reflects the massive shift Paramount is going through with Taylor Sheridan. Sheridan’s departing the studio for a new movie and TV deal at NBCUniversal in 2029; under the terms of his current contract, he will write a third season of Landman before the NBCUniversal deal kicks in. Like Tommy Norris, the pressure is on Sheridan to deliver a conclusion to Landman‘s story that not only builds on past events but also follows the rest of his shows in dominating the streaming charts.
It also shouldn’t be surprising that Sheridan is ramping up the personal and professional pressure in Tommy Norris’s life. He thrives on putting his characters through difficult situations. Like the best Westerns, he knows that these tests reveal a person’s true nature. From Yellowstone and its spinoffs to Landman, Sheridan will drag his characters through dirt and blood — and audiences will be glued to the screen.
Landman Season 2 premieres on Paramount+ on November 16.
