Landman Season 2 Trailer Reveals Sam Elliott’s Connection to Tommy

Landman season 2 has subtly revealed the role Western actor Sam Elliott will play in the sophomore run of Taylor Sheridan’s oil drama. Ahead of its second outing, the show announced that it was adding Elliott to Landman’s cast, though little has been revealed about how the Western legend ties in, until now.

Billy Bob Thornton’s likable Landman character, Tommy Norris, leads Landman‘s cast, and the rest of Tommy’s clan fills out the ranks, making family one of the show’s most important themes. Elliott will bolster the show’s family ties, with Landman season 2’s official trailer revealing that the actor will also play Norris’ kin.

Ever since Landman announced it was adding Sam Elliott to the cast, there’s been healthy speculation about how the Western legend would fit into the mix. There was reason to believe that Elliott would play the new landman for M-Tex Oil, since Tommy would be acting as the company’s president in season 2.

In the official trailer for Landman season 2, we finally get a snippet of Elliott’s character, and, surprisingly, Tommy refers to him as “Pop” over the phone. The gritty gentlemen converse about the younger Norris’ day, with Elliott’s character employing the same sardonic humor that Tommy is known for.

It seems Elliott will play Tommy’s father based on the brief interaction, meaning Norris junior will have even more family ties in the oil drama. The actors also appeared together in the cast of 1883, Sheridan’s first Yellowstone prequel, and the revelation about Elliott’s role makes their crossover in Landman even more promising.

Sam Elliott’s Character Reveal Is Excellent News For Landman

The subtle hint about Elliott’s Landman role is exciting for anyone eager to see him at work with Thornton again. The actors appear side by side in a gunfight in Sheridan’s 1883, and they also shared the screen briefly in Tombstone. However, Landman season 2 has a clear opportunity to improve upon Thornton and Elliott’s previous collaborations.

The actors coincide momentarily in Tombstone, but don’t interact. 1883 improved on their previous crossover, with the iconic actors sharing a scene when Elliott’s Shea Brennan takes on an unruly group of criminals in Fort Worth. However, Thornton’s role in 1883 as U.S. Marshal Jim Courtright is relatively short-lived, as is his screen time with Elliott.

With Elliott playing Tommy’s dad in Landman, the actors are likely to share plenty of scenes, bolstering speculation that Landman could be Thornton and Elliott’s best collaboration yet. While Elliott and Thornton are only 11 years apart in reality, the actors make a believable father-son duo, as evident from what we can see in Landman season 2’s trailer.
