Most of the big Y: Marshals news so far has come from vague CBS announcements and trailers. This time, though, the update came straight from Kayce Dutton himself! After months of silence on his upcoming project, Luke Grimes finally posted about the new Yellowstone spinoff on Instagram earlier this month.
He shared the official Y: Marshals poster on his page, showing his character Kayce in his cowboy hat and uniform with the new series title front and center. His caption was just “March 1,” which is a simple reminder of the premiere date already circled on our calendars. And that was all it took for the comments to start rolling in!
“I’m so ready for this to come out ❤️🔥🔥,” one fan wrote. “Taylor doesn’t miss! Literally the best show writer ever,” another added. Others focused on Luke’s performance, with one follower telling him that he’s “so ready for [his] first Emmy nomination.” It wasn’t just fans chiming in, either. Former Yellowstone castmates jumped in to cheer him on in this new chapter. Wendy Moniz commented, “Yesssss!” while Hassie Harrison wrote, “Go Luke!!!! So excited for ya, amigo!! 👏👏👏”
The spinoff – which will debut in March 2026 – is centered around an elite team of US Marshals in Montana that take on gang members, the cartels and even Grizzly bears.
Throughout the clip below, several cast members from the original Yellowstone series starring Kevin Costner are shown. One is Gil Birmingham as Broken Rock Reservation chief Thomas Rainwater. He could seen telling Kayce that all of the Duttons are born killers but that Kayce is different because he is a ‘protector.’
Next is child star Brecken Merrill, now 17, who portrays Kayce’s son Tate Dutton. He is shown in a car as he looks much older than when he was on the flagship series.
The show has also promised to bring back Mo Brings Plenty as Mo, according to Deadline. But not seen was Kayce’s wife Monica Dutton played by Kelsey Asbille. It is not know if she will be reprising her Yellowstone role.
American Horror Story star Ash Santos, Killers of the Flower Moon actor Tatanka Means and The Vampire Diaries alumna Arielle Kebbel have also been cast. They are joining the program as series regulars, playing Kayce’s fellow U.S. Marshals respectively called Andrea, Miles and Belle. Meanwhile Brett Cullen, who played Batman’s father Thomas Wayne in Joker, will recur as the Montana head of the U.S. Marshals Harry Gifford. Y: Marshals will also feature Prometheus hunk Logan Marshall-Green, whose casting as Kayce’s old military buddy Pete Calvin was announced earlier this month.
CBS has set the premiere for Sunday, March 1, 2026, at 8 p.m. ET with thirteen episodes lined up for the first season. A recently released teaser trailer shows Kayce trying to build a “new beginning,” even as danger, grief, and responsibility follow him into this next chapter.
