‘Masterpiece’ Taylor Sheridan Drama Confirmed to End After Next Season

A gritty drama series from master storyteller and Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan is going to be coming to an end soon. The series has won praise from fans on IMDb, with one person previously posting in their 9/10 review: “Brutal, bleak, relentless, thrilling, brilliant TV. The grubby underside of the American Dream laid bare. Superbly acted and filmed without pity.”

A second person hailed the show a “masterpiece” and explained: “It’s like you get inside the soul of The Wire and The Shield, and mix with best of Prison Break. The result is an amazing solid uncommon and risky piece of art.”

While a third hailed Sheridan as “one of the best writers in Hollywood” and the drama as “another home run” for him. The reviewer went on to explain in their 10/10 review: “While the acting is fantastic, the writing is just as good as the show will keep you entertained. It has everything you want in a great show…action, drama, suspense, twists, etc. It will keep you on the edge of your seat and wanting more. We need more shows like this!”

Another glowing 10/10 review read: “This series has already shown its potential as a top notch crime/drama TV series just based on the first episode.” They went on to add: “This is going to be the most highly acclaimed crime/drama TV series since the 1999 Sopranos.”

Streaming platform Paramount+ has confirmed that Sheridan’s crime drama Mayor of Kingstown has been renewed for a fifth and final season, with Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner back in the frame as the title character Michael ‘Mike’ McLusky. Joining him again is Emmy and Golden Globe winner Edie Falco, who reprises her role as Nina Hobbs. The fourth outing also featured The Walking Dead and Line of Duty’s Lennie James, Laura Benanti, Hugh Dillon, Taylor Handley, Tobi Bamtefa, Derek Webster, Hamish Allan- Headley and Nishi Munshi.

Mayor of Kingstown follows Mike, whose family rule the roost in the Michigan town and have considerable influence over the prison. The drama sees Mike mediating between law enforcement, gangsters, prisoners and guards to maintain peace in Kingstown.

Season four finished airing late last year to critical acclaim as Mike struggled to keep hold of Kingstown when he came up against some new players after a power vacuum was created by the Russians’ departure. Paramount has teased that Mike’s loved ones are in “more danger than ever before” and he’ll be contending with a new Warden to protect his own while facing his demons from the past.

The new season will consist of eight episodes and was created by Sheridan and Dillon, who also features in front of the camera. As well as a starring in the series, lead star Renner also serves as an executive producer on the drama.

Mayor of Kingstown is just one title in Sheridan’s huge body of work, which also includes Sicario, Hell or High Water, Tulsa King, and Landman.
