Sam Elliott’s Debut, New ‘Landman’ Images Give First Look at Season 2

New photos and a teaser trailer hint at surprises and shifting alliances as ‘Landman’ returns to Paramount+ in November.

Nearly two months out from the confirmed November 16 premiere of Paramount+’s “Landman” Season 2, fans of the hit series are already salivating over the latest batch of teasers. USA Today recently dropped a baker’s dozen of exclusive on-set images, offering the first real glimpse of what’s to come — including a peek at the season’s mysterious new character: T.L., played by none other than Sam Elliott.

If you happened to drive by the Patch Café while filming is underway this past summer, as I did, you might’ve spotted the familiar white mustache that has defined Elliott’s career for decades. Light, camera, mustache — Elliott’s presence is at once understated and electric, signaling that Season 2 will lean into new gravitas for the series’ already high-stakes oil drama.

The new trailer itself offers little in the way of specifics, though it does hint at chaos on the horizon. A tense camera lingers on Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy Norris as he eyes a pressure gauge. A voice cuts through the tension: “We got a gusher, boys.” Moments later, another directive lands: “Get everybody back.” It’s all urgency and promise—a whisper of the storms about to hit the Norris family.

USA Today’s recently released photos feature familiar faces — Thornton’s Tommy Norris, Demi Moore’s  Cami Miller, Michelle Randolph’s Ainsley Norris, Ali Larter’s Angela Norris, and Andy Garcia’s Galino — alongside Elliott’s T.L. Moore and Garcia are slated for expanded roles this season.

“Last season, Demi was essentially just the wife of a big-oil guy,” Thornton told USA Today. “There wasn’t a lot to do. [Show creator] Taylor [Sheridan] always knew she wasn’t being underused, but there was a plan all along.”

As for Elliott’s T.L., the series is keeping details under lock and key. In fact, I gleaned T. L. from the image cutline (sentence underneath) of Elliot and Larter dancing. Thornton, who’s known Elliott since the 1980s, called the casting “a joy” and said, “He’s been a hero of mine my whole career, and I call him my friend. He’s a great actor.” Beyond the name, though, Sheridan is holding firm, ensuring that viewers will have to tune in to understand just how T.L. shakes up Tommy’s world.

Season 1 of “Landman” made waves almost immediately. Thornton’s hard-living, big-oil crisis manager Tommy Norris hit a gusher both on-screen and off, with nearly 15 million viewers streaming the series in its first four weeks. Created by Taylor Sheridan, the show ended its inaugural season with heartbreak and the death of charismatic M-Tex Oil CEO Monty Miller (Jon Hamm), setting the stage for fresh power plays in the second season.

With Jon Hamm’s departure, Thornton steps back into the spotlight, bolstered by reinforcements like Elliott, Moore, and Garcia. If the new photos are any indication, Season 2 promises tension, drama, and the kind of Texas oil-country intrigue that Sheridan has made his signature.

Mark your calendars: “Landman” returns exclusively to Paramount+ on Sunday, November 16. Until then, fans can revisit the first season and speculate endlessly about what secrets T.L. will bring to Tommy Norris’s high-stakes empire.
