Taylor Sheridan Casting The Best Yellowstone Actor in ‘Landman’ Season 2 Is Hiding a Sad Truth
Sam Elliott joins Landman Season 2, but Taylor Sheridan’s killing spree trend from Season 1 threatens his character’s survival.
After the successful run of Landman season 1, even with all its flaws, Taylor Sheridan is all set to return to the screens with the second season of the series. According to the latest reports, the brainbox has even decided to bring in one of the best stars from the Yellowstone-verse to this lore’s season 2: Sam Elliot.
Of course, considering the spectacular talent and big name that he is, one might as well expect Elliot to stick around for a long time. However, Sheridan’s bringing him on board just might be hiding a sad truth, as the mastermind could possibly continue the trend he started from the first season of the series, which does not guarantee Elliot’s safety.
Sam Elliot in Landman S2 might have Taylor Sheridan continue his disappointing trend

Yes, Sheridan did a spectacular job indeed by bringing in even more star power to the second season of Landman, casting Sam Elliot in it. Just like the first season had a star-studded cast filled with talents like Jon Hamm, Demi Moore, Cami Miller, and Billy Bob Thornton, it seems like the second season won’t fall short on the star power either.
However, as interesting as Elliot’s integration into the lore would be, if show creator Sheridan decides to continue his disappointing trend from season one: Launching on a killing spree, taking out characters who haven’t even been there for that long in the show. Like what he did with Jon Hamm and Michael Peña‘s characters in the saga.
For one, there was Hamm’s Monty Miller, whose health declined due to stress caused by the fallout of elements of his operations as the season progressed, with him eventually dying at the end of season one. Then there was Peña’s Armando, who was killed off in the first episode of season one, by an oil rig explosion on the oil patch.
That said, considering how even such great talents weren’t safe from Taylor Sheridan‘s pen killing them off, it could be that the mastermind could choose to get rid of Elliot’s character pretty soon as well, despite his bringing such dazzling star power to the show—and if that happens, then it would just be a sad truth that fans will have to live with.
Sam Elliot could still stay safe in Landman S2, though

Although the stakes are high and the chances of Sheridan taking the same approach with Elliot’s character as Monty and Armando and giving him a quick death is possible, there are also chances that Sam Elliot could stay. This could be if his character becomes a mainstay, one that’s supposed to last for a lot longer than Monty and Armando.
Plus, Hamm’s character arc as Monty felt rather complete when the show creator decided to kill him off, almost like he completed his purpose and was supposed to exit the series right at that moment. Not to mention, his death has made Moore a top cast member of the show, so Sheridan could be building something epic up with this turn of events.
With that said, presuming that both Hamm’s and Peña’s respective characters’ deaths were only brought about to set up the overall tone and story for this drama, then things might not be all that unfortunate or disappointing for Elliot’s character. But only the release of season 2 will be able to confirm how long he will be able to stick around.
Landman season 2 is set to premiere in November 2025.
