Taylor Sheridan’s Most Hated Series Blindsides Fans With Unexpected News

You just know Paramount couldn’t help but go all in on Landman when they knew it was going to involve both Taylor Sheridan and Billy Bob Thornton — and the reward keeps getting bigger. Just weeks after Landman Season 2 exploded out like oil being struck and broke every internal premiere record, the series has now surged to the top spot on Prime Video thanks to the Paramount+ add-on, which means it has successfully topped two streaming platforms during its second season.

The numbers don’t lie, either. The Season 2 premiere alone pulled in over 9.2 million views in its first 48 hours, a massive 262% increase over Season 1’s debut, and according to the prelim Nielsen data, Landman is projected to land as a top three original series during the week of November 17, and jump to top-two status by November 24. With that kind of momentum, Paramount+ wasted no time — Landman is officially renewed for Season 3.

Thornton leads the show with a dry, comedic and fed-up performance as Tommy Norris, the titular landman at the center of Sheridan’s Texas saga. He’s joined by a brilliant supporting cast: Demi Moore, Andy Garcia, Sam Elliott, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chávez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, James Jordan, and Colm Feore.

What Is ‘Landman’ About?

Tommy Norris in a cowboy hat looks over at his father T.L. Norris, who's looking away tearfully in Landman.

In Season 2, Tommy’s ex-wife, Angela (Ali Larter), returns home on a more permanent basis, doing her best to balance being a mother and a wife. However, it doesn’t take much to set her off. Many reviews on Rotten Tomatoes highlight this as the season’s weakness, as Angela and her daughter, Ainsley (Michelle Randolph), receive even more screen time. In his review for Collider, Jeff Ewing noted that the characters barely change in the three episodes available for review. He wrote:

“One of the biggest issues with Landman is that events happen, circumstances change, but characters largely don’t. Thornton embodies his role well, but Tommy’s a capable relic, dragging his feet any time something might alter his course. His ex-wife Angela is an interesting source of positivity and intensity — and Larter is regularly solid and always watchable in the role — but changes relatively little, while daughter Ainsley doesn’t meaningfully evolve at all.”

Season 2 has seen new tensions rising from unfamiliar places, as Tommy battles to keep M-TEX afloat after the death of Jon Hamm‘s Monty Miller, while trying to ward off the threat of Garcia’s Gallino, a drug lord with an oil interest. Garcia, who appeared in the Season 1 finale in a cameo role, has come to the fore and recently told Collider of his joy at having a part written specifically for him by the master that is Sheridan.

“He has people in mind, or he writes a character, and he says, ‘I want that actress or that actor.’ I know he wrote the part for me. It wasn’t written when we met. He said, ‘I have an idea about this part. I want to write it for you.’ And then you go, ‘Of course.’ That’s a blessing that you have someone like that who wants to write for you. So, for me, it was very simple. I said, ‘I’m all in. Tell me when to start.’”

Catch new episodes weekly on Paramount+, and stay tuned for more updates as Landman drills its way into the history books. Landman Season 3 will begin production in 2026.
