The Madison: Everything We Know About the Yellowstone Spin-off

Yellowstone may have ended, but Montana never dies. The next spin-off of the wildly successful Paramount Network series — following in the footsteps of 1883 and 1923 — is The Madison, a family drama set in yet another picturesque valley in Big Sky country. According to the official logline, “The series is a heartfelt study of grief and human connection following a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana.”

We don’t yet know how the series is connected to the Duttons, but we do know who’s starring in it. Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell will follow Yellowstone‘s Kevin Costner, 1883‘s Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, and 1923‘s Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren as the famous faces leading the cast. Other details are somewhat sparse, as is typical with a Taylor Sheridan-created project, but we know enough to be excited. Here’s all the info available so far to get you hyped for your next trip to the ranch.

The Madison release date prediction: A premiere date hasn’t been announced, but it will likely debut in 2026. The Sheridan empire also has two other spin-offs coming, including the Kayce Dutton-centric Y: Marshals, which premieres March 1, 2026 on CBS, and Dutton Ranch, a modern-day drama following Beth, Rip, and Carter.

What channel or network will The Madison air on? There has been no official announcement regarding what channel or network The Madison will air on. Weird, right? There are really only two options though; it can follow in Yellowstone‘s bootprints and air on Paramount Network, or most likely, it will stream on Paramount+ and boost that streaming service. It can also air on both, debuting on Paramount Network and simulcasting on Paramount+ or streaming there the next day. The Hollywood Reporter says The Madison will stream on Paramount+, but doesn’t say whether it will air somewhere else first.

The Madison trailer: No trailer is available yet.

The Madison production: Pfeiffer was announced as the star of The Madison in August 2024, and filming began in September 2024. Dallas and Fort Worth provided many of the locations for the series, as reported by local news outlets. Downtown Dallas even appeared to stand-in for New York City. Deadline reports that The Madison already has a good shot at an early renewal for a second season.

Who is in The Madison?

Though filming wrapped in December 2024, Kurt Russell was only confirmed as a cast member in September 2025. He joins a cast led by Pfeiffer and Patrick J. Adams and is expected to play the husband of Pfeiffer’s character, but that’s still unconfirmed by Paramount. The other big casting news here is that Matthew Fox, the star of Lost who took time away from acting, has a regular role. Here’s a rundown of The Madison cast and the characters they are playing.

  • Michelle Pfeiffer as Stacy Clyburn, a formidable NYC matriarch and mother of Paige and Abigail
  • Patrick J. Adams as Russell McIntosh, an investment banker and husband of Paige who has followed the life path set out for him from the start
  • Elle Chapman as Paige McIntosh, the somewhat self-centered New Yorker wife of Russell, an investment banker
  • Beau Garrett as Abigail Reese, a sardonic New Yorker and divorced mother of two
  • Amiah Miller as Brigitte Reese, Abigail’s oldest daughter
  • Alaina Pollack as Macy Reese, Abigail’s youngest daughter
  • Matthew Fox as Paul, a self-reliant bachelor who loves the outdoors
  • Kevin Zegers as Cade, Stacy’s new neighbor charged with looking after her new house
  • Danielle Vasinova as Kestrel, an indigenous woman married to a Montana rancher
  • Ben Schnetzer as Van, a salt-of-the-earth and neighborly Montana rancher
  • Rebecca Spence as Liliana, Stacy’s friend and fellow member of the NYC elite

The Madison plot

The show’s official logline describes it as “a heartfelt study of grief and human connection following a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana.” The character descriptions offer more insight, indicating that this is a series about a multi-generational New York family who moves to Montana after a tragedy. Early reports of the series suggested that the tragedy involves the death of Stacy’s husband, but it’s unknown if that detail remains or not. At one point, this show was also called 2024 and starred Matthew McConaughey, so anything could happen.

In a November 2024 interview with Variety, director Christina Alexandra Voros — who worked on Yellowstone as well as The Madison — shared a bit about the new series. “It’s such a different story,” she said. “The common ground is the landscape. We are in Montana, but it is seen through a completely different lens, so it feels like another facet of this cut stone that has been polished. There are parallels in the scope of landscape and a human being’s place in that space, but it’s coming at it from a completely different point of view.”

How is The Madison connected to Yellowstone? The Madison‘s ties to Yellowstone aren’t clear yet, but we do know that it’s set in present day, presumably after the end of the flagship show. Given the way that series wrapped up, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see some familiar faces. Yellowstone was set in Paradise Valley, Montana, which is just a couple of hours away from Madison Valley, and Kayce (Luke Grimes), Monica (Kelsey Asbille), Beth (Kelly Reilly), and Rip (Cole Hauser) were all still living nearby at the end of the series finale. Aside from a tiny part owned by Kayce, the Dutton ranch was sold to Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham), who led tribe members in restoring it as tribal land. With all those Duttons committed to two other spin-offs (Y: Marshals and Dutton Ranch), who knows how much time they’ll have to pop over to The Madison?

Where to watch The Madison: The show will most likely live on Paramount+, but that’s yet to be announced. As soon as the info is available, you’ll find it here. Yellowstone is streaming on Peacock.
