The Madison Season 2: Taylor Sheridan Must Correct His Weirdest Yellowstone Mistake in New Spinoff Season
Paramount+’s new streaming series from Taylor Sheridan can show winter in Montana for the Clyburn family in The Madison Season 2, redeeming an odd mistake the Yellowstone creator made in his original neo-Western show. The Madison was released this spring, dropping its six-part story in two different batches in March, with its slow, emotional narrative hooking its viewers. The Madison stars Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell as Stacy and Preston Clyburn, the heads of a New York City family who relocate to the Madison River Valley in Montana after an unthinkable tragedy. The first season shows Stacy and her family adjusting to life in Montana, potentially preparing to settle there. Still, The Madison is far from over.
The Madison Season 2 Needs To Show Winter In Montana For The Clyburns
In The Madison Season 1, Stacy and the Clyburn brood temporarily relocate to Montana to mourn the death of their patriarch after Kurt Russell’s character dies in the premiere of The Madison. Preston’s land along the Madison River, which he shared with his brother, Paul (Matthew Fox), was his happy place, and Stacy comes to appreciate it after his death.
While grieving an unimaginable loss, Stacy realizes she feels most connected to her husband at his favorite place, and her old life starts to feel empty. When she returns from a stint in Montana, Stacy’s Manhattan town home feels unwelcoming, and she ultimately returns to the West, where she seemingly relocates permanently at the end of The Madison Season 1.
The real test for whether Stacy can stay in Montana will be how much she’s willing to adapt to her new landscape. Stacy manages a week in the warmer weather, but as winter approaches, the colder months would be the real test of whether Stacy can emerge as a Montanan. That said, The Madison Season 2 should cool things down.
Taylor Sheridan Never Showed Winter In All Five Seasons Of Yellowstone
While incorporating colder weather would seem like an obvious way to challenge the Dutton family as they navigate ranch politics and range wars in Yellowstone, Sheridan’s flagship series doesn’t show a single winter throughout the entire production. From Yellowstone Seasons 1 through 5, time passes, but audiences always witness the family during Montana’s warmer months. Sheridan misses out on pushing the Dutton family to their limits, though tragedy and death in Yellowstone follows them regardless. There’s only a single winter scene in Yellowstone, which hardly counts. In Yellowstone Season 1, Episode 7, Evelyn Dutton (Gretchen Mol) “enlightens” young Beth (Kylie Rogers) as she gets her first period on Christmas morning, shown in a flashback.
Still, winter in Montana raises the stakes for any Big Sky story, which Yellowstone audiences witness in its prequel. In 1923 Season 2, the Dutton family, led by Jacob (Harrison Ford) and Cara (Helen Mirren), encounter one of the most brutal cold spells of the period, and its paralyzing effects on the region drive the story from beginning to end. Winter in Montana in 1923 Season 2 is visceral and memorable, and it would be fascinating to incorporate the cold into The Madison Season 2. It would cleverly test Stacy, further challenging her conviction to be near her husband’s sanctuary. While Yellowstone doesn’t do its setting justice by skipping over the hard months, The Madison can embrace them.
According to an Instagram post from Elle Chapman, who plays Stacy’s daughter, Paige McIntosh, The Madison Season 2 already wrapped filming at the end of 2025. That said, it’s already virtually written in stone whether the family will see their first winter in Montana. That said, considering filming was happening toward the end of the year, perhaps they will.
