The ‘Yellowstone’ Cast’s New Projects, Spinoffs and Surprising Next Chapters After the Finale
Ever since Yellowstone ended in 2024, fans have been anxiously waiting to see where the stars would go next. And now, two years later, we finally have our answer. Some are starring in spinoffs, whereas others have found themselves in hot water over their departure. Below, we share what the cast of Yellowstone is doing now and even reveal how some of them felt about their highly controversial characters.

Kevin Costner as John Dutton III
When it comes to Westerns, very few actors have made them as iconic and lovable as Kevin Costner. Not only has he been in Silverado (1985), Dances with Wolves (1990), Waterworld (1995), The Postman (1997) and Open Range (2003), but he was also the main character in Yellowstone. The role could—and probably will—define his career, but not for the reasons one might think. No, when it comes to Yellowstone, most people will remember Costner’s unexpected departure in the middle of Season 5. At the time, he said he left to focus on his movie Horizon: An American Saga (2024), but it was later revealed there were some issues between him and other cast members.
“I want to reach out and let you know that after this long year and a half of working on Horizon and doing all of the things that that’s required, and thinking about Yellowstone, that beloved series that I love, that I know you love, I just realized I’m not going to be able to continue Season 5B or into the future,” the Oscar winner shared in a social media video back in 2024. “It was something that really changed me. I loved it and I know you loved it. I just wanted to let you know that I won’t be returning. I love the relationship we’ve been able to develop and I’ll see you at the movies.” Since then, Costner has continued to try and get his third Horizon movie made, but has faced several financial difficulties—meaning that the movie might not get made at all. He is now 71-years-old and believed to be single.

Kelly Reilly as Beth Dutton
Everyone loves Beth (Kelly Reilly) and thankfully she is expected to return to our screens later this year in a brand new spinoff entitled Dutton Ranch. “This is a different era—I had hit my quota of the younger Beth,” Reilly told The Times earlier this year. “I played with her trying to give it up, but it was too on the nose. I loved her smoking, and we don’t want to suddenly sanitize her with therapy or good behavior… but I am trying to find a bit more maturity.”
Aside from Yellowstone, Reilly has been in Pride & Prejudice (2005), Eden Lake (2008), Sherlock Holmes (2009), Flight (2012) and Under Salt Marsh (2026). She is 48-years-old and has been married to Kyle Baugher since 2012.

Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton
Just like his sister Beth, Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) was also given a Yellowstone spinoff this year. It’s called Marshals and is more of a procedural show as compared to a neo-Western. “I had no clue what a procedural was. I’d never watched one, but my mom loves them,” Grimes told USA Today earlier this year. “I was a little wary about whether it would work, taking this character from a show, Yellowstone, that was very much not a procedural. We sort of thread the needle to marry the two worlds.”
Prior to joining the Yellowstone universe, Grimes was in Brothers & Sisters (2009 to 2010), American Sniper (2014) and Fifty Shades of Grey (2015). He has also been in Happiness for Beginners (2023) and Eddington (2025). Grimes is 42-years-old and has been married to Bianca Rodrigues Grimes since 2018.

Wes Bentley as Jamie Dutton
It’s very hard to hate a Dutton, but somehow in Yellowstone Jamie (Wes Bentley) made it so easy! Not only was he rude, but he also despised his family, making his death in the finale that much more satisfying. “I will miss [the show], but I will also celebrate it being over,” Bentley told The Hollywood Reporter. “I hate playing him [Jamie]. I try not to judge my characters, but it’s been enough years that it’s hard not to at this point. It’s very hard to play him. And at the same time, I love it. I’m going to miss the challenge. Every single scene is literally the hardest scene I’ve ever had to do. Or it’s bringing in a new challenge. If the next thing is not the same challenge, I’m definitely going to miss it.” Since leaving Yellowstone, Bentley hasn’t acted in anything. He’s 42-years-old and has been married to Jacqui Swedberg since 2010.
Cole Hauser as Rip Wheeler
Where there’s Beth, there’s Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) , a tough cowboy who will appear in Dutton Ranch. Prior to the Yellowstone universe, Hauser was in High Incident (1996 to 1997), Good Will Hunting (1997), 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003), Chase (2010 to 2011) and Rogue (2014 to 2017). “I felt like there was a lot to unpack [with Rip],” Hauser told Parade in 2024. “He’s obviously mysterious in some ways in the beginning of the show with his relationship with Beth, his relationship with John, and who he was to the family as this man of the mountains and nature. In my opinion, he’s got the greatest office in the world.”
Kelsey Asbille as Monica Dutton
Before Yellowstone, Kelsey Asbille was in One Tree Hill (2005 to 2009), Pair of Kings (2010 to 2013), Teen Wolf (2015 to 2016) and Wind River (2017). She played Monica Dutton, Kayce’s wife, in Yellowstone, and while many people expected her to come back for Marshals, that never happened due to her character’s tragic death.
“I worked up the courage to call [Asbille]. I didn’t know how she was going to feel about [Monica’s death],” Grimes told TV Insider earlier this year. “I had to see how she was doing. We had a great conversation. In true Kelsey fashion, she handled it like a pro and totally understood. She’s going to do just fine. She is so talented, gorgeous and awesome. She’s going to work. That’s not an issue. I was heartbroken for myself [too],” the actor continued. “It felt like, ‘I don’t even know what that would look like doing it without her, what that would feel like.’ Kelsey’s become one of my best friends. She’s the coolest actor I’ve ever worked with. She’s down to earth, sweet and kind to every other actor and the crew.” Since Yellowstone, Asbille hasn’t worked on any new projects. She is 34-years-old.
