Tim McGraw is ready to act again. McGraw starred in the hit TV show, 1883, a spinoff of Yellowstone, with his wife Faith Hill, and is now ready to return to the small screen. McGraw is, of course, no stranger to acting, previously appearing in hit films like Flicka, Friday Night Lights, Country Strong and more. But now, the 58-year-old says he is ready to return to television.
“1883 was the first TV series that I had done and Faith had done,” McGraw explains. “Movies are a little quicker for sure, but 1883, Faith and I both joke that it was the hardest job we’ve ever had, period, in our lives. And I grew up in a farm town, working on farms and driving tractors and pulling coffee weeds out of rice fields, so I did some hard labor growing up.”
McGraw’s hard work ethic came in handy when filming 1883.
“We were shooting 1883 for six months,” McGraw recalls. “Sometimes six days a week, 14 hours a day on horseback and terrible weather conditions – either burning hot or freezing cold. It was a lot of hard work, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. But we had such a great time and it was a great experience for Faith and I together, and I would love to do another Western somewhere down the road.”
Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s Roles in ‘1883’
It was McGraw who was first cast in 1883. Taylor Sheridan, who also directs Yellowstone, cast McGraw, who was then tasked with asking if his wife wanted to be part of the script. After the spinoff ended, the father of three said he hoped he and Hill could find another joint project.
“It was wonderful,” McGraw boasts of working alongside his wife. “I was always amazed every day doing scenes with her, how good she was. She really elevated my game and made me better because she was just so natural and so good. And to see her build her arc as Margaret and how powerful and strong Margaret’s character became, and watch her build that was just pretty phenomenal.
“I was so cool to be able to do scenes with her and have a great day of shooting something really incredible,” he adds. “And going home and laying in bed and talking about it. That was something pretty special.”
