‘Landman’ Actor Jacob Lofland Surprises Fans With Real-Life Cowboy Cutting Skills

He participated in the 2026 NCHA Celebrity Cutting competition.

Landman fans know and love Jacob Lofland as the actor who plays Cooper Norris, the lanky, flannel-and-ballcap-wearing son of Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton). Just like his dad, Cooper happens to know his way around the oil fields of the Permian Basin. While Jacob doesn’t manage rigs in real life, in true Taylor Sheridan fashion, he leans into his fictional Western roots.

On Saturday, April 11, Jacob participated in the 2026 NCHA Celebrity Cutting competition to benefit UT Southwestern Medical Center’s cancer programs serving Fort Worth and the surrounding communities.

During the competition (and after working with elite NCHA riders and professional trainers to learn the equestrian sport), Jacob and a roster of other A-listers—including Elle Chapman, Kevin Zegers, Beau Garrett, and Amiah Miller from The Madison—saddled up and competed to see who could separate and hold as many cows and steers as they could in 2.5 minutes. At the end of the day, Lioness actor Thad Luckinbill and cutting’s Holly Francois took home the 448.5-point win.

Losing didn’t dim the experience for Jacob, though. “What an amazing time I had at the @nchacutting celebrity cutting benefiting @utswmedcenter in support to expand cancer care in Fort Worth! Huge thank you to @nicsheridanofficial for having me out,” he captioned a video on Instagram.

His fans also didn’t focus on the outcome—they were just thrilled to see him leaning even further into the Western lifestyle.

“You rode like a cowboy! Really great job bronc, proud of ya,” one fan exclaimed.

“You killed it. Keep riding, cowboy,” someone else commented.

“Bro, get back to filming Landman, I’m stressing over here,” another fan joked.
