Marshals Season 2 Is Coming — Release Date Confirmed and Fans Are Excited

Fans won’t have to wait too long for Season 2 of the Yellowstone spinoff Marshals.

Despite some criticism, it’s safe to say that the Kayce Dutton-focused procedural drama airing on CBS has been a success. The formula was simple really: take an established Yellowstone character, drop them into a format that has been utilized by networks for years, and see what happens. CBS was banking on new viewers being able to tune in without feeling like they had to do homework, and Yellowstone fans to just enjoy seeing a beloved character on their television screens again.

They were right.

Marshals is tracking to become the most-watched television show of the current broadcast season. It’s also very likely to claim the title of most-watched scripted program, and that’s even including viewership via streaming. Amy Reisenbach, a CBS Entertainment prexy, had this to say about Marshals‘ strong start at the network:

“‘Marshals’ delivered a breakout performance, capturing a massive audience across platforms and quickly establishing itself as one of TV’s most powerful new series. The overwhelming viewer response speaks to the strength of the ‘Yellowstone’ world, the bold character driven storytelling from the creative team and the dynamic cast performances led by Luke Grimes.”

Marshals culture

The massive response to the show led to the official order of a second season of Marshals back in early March… and that came as no surprise. The Yellowstone brand just has that kind of carry, and it translated quite well into network television (that’s somewhat dependent on who you ask).

And the good news is that production on Season 2 is likely well underway. There were reports that executives at CBS gave the writers room the green light to start working on more episodes as early as February of this year, and all signs point towards that being true. The jump that Marshals got actually means that fans won’t have to deal with a large gap between Season 1 and Season 2.

CBS recently revealed some details about their primetime schedule for the 2026-2027 broadcast season, and guess which show was slotted within that schedule? You guessed it… Season 2 of Marshals. Though there’s not an official premiere date just yet, the Kayce Dutton-led series will return this fall. Since the show is ending in May, and networks generally start their fall schedule sometime in September, it’s possible that fans of the show will only go three or so months without seeing Kayce Dutton on their televisions.

That’s how you keep TV viewers happy (especially in this current, television age where some series keep fans waiting for years between seasons).

The spinoff sequel is currently airing in the coveted Sunday at 8 E.S.T time slot on CBS, and that’s where it will remain when it returns later this year. New episodes of the show will air in that same time slot all the way through May until the season finale. And now, fans can take in the rest of Season 1 knowing that Kayce Dutton’s story will continue even after all 13 episodes of the first season have aired.
